So I just noticed that at some point I went past 100,000 pageviews on here. That's amazing! Thank you all so much for following my silly art. :)
Happy July! One week only- superhero (including my Batgirl/Supergirl comics) & Adventure Time prints are back in my store! Plus, enter code JULY2013 at checkout for 25% off your entire order!

HeroesCon is once again almost upon us! This year, the show is twice as big and you'll be able to find me smack dab in the middle of it at Indie Island table AA-1006. As always, here's a handy map to show you exactly how to get there.

And HERE is a GIANT map of where that is in relation to the entire floor.

I'll also be on a panel spotlighting Project: Rooftop Saturday at 2PM. Here are the details for that:
Room 203B
PROJECT ROOFTOP
What do you get when you take some of the most talented artists in the world and challenge them with redesigning an icon? PROJECT: ROOFTOP, the superhero redesign site, is here at Heroes Con, LIVE! Join Dean Trippe and Vito Delsante, two of the popular site's editors, and their guests, Ron Salas, Joel Priddy, Mike Maihack, Joel Carroll, Joe Quinones, Ming Doyle, and Dan Govar as they discuss costumes, masks, capes and announce a special challenge open exclusively to HeroesCon attendees!

That's a lot of awesome (I hope there's enough chairs). It will also be the first place to see the "super" piece I painted for the annual HeroesCon auction Sat night. So you won't want to miss it.

Other than that, I'll just be hanging out at my table. I'll have a limited amount of Operation Space Cat books as well as some old and new prints. If I look a little sad it's because this is the first year Jen and Prime won't be with me and I will miss them. So make sure to stop by and cheer me up by buying stuff. :)
Wow- so many birthday wishes posted to my profile yesterday! Thanks so much, everyone! I will put them to good use. :)
LAST day to bid on this original BATGIRL/SUPERGIRL comic art! Auction ends 8pm EST. www.ebay.com/itm/-/25127524598…

Merry Christmas (again) from Batgirl and Supergirl by mikemaihack
Now that it's almost summer, seems like a good a time as any to put last year's Batgirl/Supergirl Christmas comic up for bid! (Actually I have a family vacation coming up and we need the extra cash).

eBay auction here: www.ebay.com/itm/-/25127524598…

Scans of the originals are in the link above and the winner also gets a full-color print of the finished comic. I found the thumbnails for this too, so I'm throwing those in as well. Auction ends next Monday at 8PM EST. Good luck!

Had a fun time talking with the Once Upon A Sketch folks. You can listen to my rambling, unfocussed self here: onceuponasketch.com/2013/05/on…

I honestly can't remember much of what we talked about, but almost certain I talked a good length about the CiS/Scholastic deal. How it came about, what I have planned, etc. Probably said some stuff I shouldn't have. That's sorta my thing.
A limited number of 75 Operation Space Cat books, my first ever convention sketchbook, are now available online. I've also put up a few new prints (see below) cowshell.com/store/

Also thanks for everyone who came by to see me at MegaCon! I had a great time. In fact, not only was it my most successful MegaCon, but one of my most successful shows ever! Looking forward to seeing all you awesome folks again next year. :)
MegaCon is TOMORROW! I will be at my usual table (Artist Alley, White 7) with all my usual goodies (new prints, Cleopatra in Space, an ultra-cute one-year-old [not for sale], etc). Here's a zoomed-in map of where that table is exactly (click to embiggen).

Since the news broke yesterday, I can tell you this will be one of the LAST chances to pick of CiS books. And don't forget, my first ever sketchbook, Operation Space Cat, debuts at the show!

Always have a blast at MegaCon. And LOVE that's it's local (no traveling!). Hope to see some of you there!

I've decided to start offering commissions again. If my inbox is any indication, this should come as great news to a lot of you out there! Also, I have no idea how long I'll leave them open. Just depends on how overcrowded my work life gets. Anyhow, pricing and details below.

Character commissions are drawn on 9x12 100lb Bristol, penciled or inked, and digitally colored. Prices are $100 or $150 for two characters. Price includes the finished drawing plus a hi-res pdf of the final colored piece. No prints will be made by me of your commission although I retain the right to show it on the web and/or use it in a book collection if that day ever happens.

Write your commission character request in the "special instructions" box during checkout. Other than specific costume choices, no other information is needed. Please do not give me specific actions or poses. Those requests will be ignored. Please DO provide reference if you feel it is needed. You can attach a link or mail them to mike@cowshell.com.

I may email if I require additional information. Feel free to do the same if you have any questions.

Restrictions:
- No personal likenesses. Only fictional characters at this time.
- NO sex or frontal nudity (tasteful nudity is fine though).
- NO unusual or unnecessary gore.
- Other than "FRAK", no four-letter curse words.
- In other words, try to keep your request PG-13 or below.

I do my best to get to commissions as soon as possible and in the order I receive them in. Hopefully it's not the case, but due to additional workload, it may take up to 3 months.

Seems like a good day to list my favorite films from last year. Of the ones I saw at least. Which is becoming less and less the further I make my way into fatherhood.

Really though, only films I'm kinda bummed I missed were (in order) Argo, Silver Linings Playbook, Lincoln, and Perks of Being a Wallflower (which admittedly are all films that'll be just as good (or bad) in my living room anyhow). But at least I'm finally seeing Django Unchained this weekend! So anyhow, again, here are my faves of the ones I saw.

  1. The Avengers
  2. Cloud Atlas
  3. Wreck-it Ralph
  4. Moonrise Kingdom
  5. Cabin in The Woods
  6. The Hobbit
  7. Skyfall
  8. John Carter
  9. Dark Knight Rises
  10. Brave
  11. ParaNorman (had to add it!)

For 2013 I'm most looking forward to Star Trek Into Darkness! I'm sure there's some other stuff coming out too but not as important.
Since I've gotten a lot of new followers lately, I should probably preface this entry by saying I really like music. Like a LOT. It is almost completely integrated in my cartooning lifestyle and I can't imagine being able to thoroughly enjoy one without the other. So that said, every year I compile a list of my favorite albums of the past year and that list is now up. This year I also included a massive five hour Spotify mix of my 75 favorite songs of 2012. It's worth listening to I think! I'd be surprise if you didn't discover at least one new artist in there you liked.

Anyhow, post here: cowshell.com/buffalog/2013/01/…

I spent the last day of 2012 at Disney, so unfortunately I was unable to thank dA for the Daily Deviation yesterday! Well... not "unfortunately" really, because I was like, at Disney. And that was pretty cool. But still! Anyhow, it was for this piece:

Which I agree, was a nice illo to ring in the new year. Thank you everyone for the nice comments and thank you to jcroxas for featuring it. Also hello to you new guys! My gallery is primarily full of similarly cute stuff. I have a weak affinity for that sort of thing. :)
Just wanted to wish everyone a super fun-filled holiday as we pummel our way into 2013 in which we finally will get a new Star Trek movie and the rest of Doctor Who season 7. Yay!

I'm very happy to say I successfully made my goal/deadline to finish drawing my first graphic novel by the end of the year. Now it's going to be half year of coloring the dang thing. BUT, I don't expect that to be quite as time invasive as the drawing side so hopefully that means I won't be so absent from these parts next year. Looking forward to seeing what you all have in store for me!
For ONE weekend only--THIS weekend--I am putting all of my superhero and Adventure Time prints back in my online store. This includes all those Batgirl/Supergirl comics that the kids seem to enjoy. Makes great Christmas presents (or so I want you to believe)! After Sunday, November  25th, I'll be taking them all back down making my convention appearances the only other chance you'll have to get these prints. All prints come signed.

And remember, all my dA watchers get 20% off when they enter code DA-20 during checkout! Thank you so much for all of your love and support this past year!

Just a quick not to let you all know I decided to run a sale in my online store this month. For a limited time, all books and prints are 25% off when you enter code OCT12 at checkout! cowshell.com/store

Also, still working on that graphic novel. In fact I'll be working on it forever. So apologies about not having any new art and/or timely responses to each of your lovely comments. I did my best to go though and thank a bunch of you this morning though!

I do think I have a couple things coming out this fall though, so maybe I'll be a bit louder in the next few weeks.
Thanks to all those who stopped by at Baltimore Comic-Con last weekend! It was a great show and I made a lot of fun new memories. If some of you have never had a chance to make it, I'd definitely make an effort for next year. It's one of the best.

I posted the few sketches i did over at Cleopatra in Space for those interested. I'd post em' here but they were all taken with my phone so they aren't the best quality. www.cowshell.com/cleopatra/201…

Also, sorry about being so quiet around these parts lately. I've been working on a graphic novel (as well as a few other things) which is pretty much taking up all my extra time. I should have some fun stuff to share with you all in the coming months though!
I will be at Baltimore Comic-Con this weekend, September 8th-9th at the Baltimore Convention Center. Once again I'll be sharing space with some of the best kid and all-ages comic creators in the business at the Kids Love Comics pavilion- Booth 2403. Map and info below.

Along with Heroes Con, BCC is one of the best kid-friendly shows on the east coast and there's going to be a lot of events and activities going on. So if you have children, make sure to bring them by. My attendance was something of a last minute thing, but hopefully I can squeeze in some sort of activity or demonstration as well. Maybe show the kids how to draw space cats or sumthin. At any rate, should be a fun time and I look forward to seeings some of you there!
Remember all those Adventure Time drawings I drew back in April? [I put them all below these paragraphs just in case you don't.] Good news! The original drawings for each of them are now up for bid! Proceeds go to helping me pay bills and taking care of a loving supportive family (well, the wife is loving... the baby is kinda needy actually).

I'm selling all nine as a set. And with prints of each of them included. Help me spread the word! Or bid on them, which would be even better. :)

Just wanted to give a quick thanks to everyone who stopped by my table at Heroes Con over the weekend! I had a fantastic time (as is par with the show) and was floored by the amount of people who follow Cleopatra in Space. I mean, it's cool that people love my Batgirl & Supergirl or my Adventure Time art, but there's a certain thrill about having someone excited about your own creation. One young girl said she had been waiting FOREVER for the second Cleo book (which, being a year between cons, is not far off). Kids are the best.

Anyhow, if you're interested in such things, I posted a few sketches I did during the show on my CiS blog: www.cowshell.com/cleopatra/201…

If yours isn't there it's not because I didn't like it. I just forgot to take a picture of it is all. Hope to see a bunch of you next year!
